Church Staff and Vestry

Our Bishop is The Right Reverend José McLouglin, the 7th Bishop of the Diocese of Western North Carolina.
Bishops are one of the three orders of ordained ministers in the church. Our bishops are charged with the apostolic work of leading, supervising, and uniting the church. Bishops represent Christ and his church, and they are called to provide Christian vision and leadership for their dioceses. The BCP (p. 855) notes that the bishop is “to act in Christ's name for the reconciliation of the world and the building up of the church; and to ordain others to continue Christ's ministry.” Bishops stand in the apostolic succession, maintaining continuity in the present with the ministry of the Apostles. Bishops serve as chief pastors of the church, exercising a ministry of oversight and supervision.

Rev. Dr. Erin Kirby, our 21st Rector was called to serve with St. John's in August of 2020! She was drawn to St. John's because of who we are and what we do in Christ's name. She loves our food pantry, our Church of the Advocate ministry, our community garden, our physical space, and our presence in Marion. She sensed our love for each other and feels honored to have become a part of our St. John's community.

Vestry Equity Statement adopted October '23
As people of faith and McDowell County individuals, we are committed to unifying our residents by respecting and acknowledging each other’s cultures and lived experiences. To build a stronger community we will continue to educate ourselves and others, by actively challenging historic systemic racial inequities and policies that still exist. It is a human right for all people of McDowell County, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, sex, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, religion, culture, or language, to live without fear and have equitable access to resources to establish a foundation of health and well-being. (statement of commitment adopted by St. John's Vestry, 10/28/23)
