On August 19, 2023, St. John’s Vestry met with Adam McCarrison, Area Field Director of the Boy Scouts of America and voted that St. John’s become a charter partner with the BSA.
Since becoming a troop at St. John’s, our scouts have helped support our church and our community in a multitude of ways in their first year. Please read below to discover some of the great things they've been up to this year, (2023-2024).
In September 2023, our scouts held their first meeting at our church and helped with maintaining our memorial garden. Troop 369 participated in the annual Scouting for Food food drive in partnership with Dove’s Market in Marion. They donated all of the food they collected, nearly 1000 lbs, to our Martha Simmons Food Pantry. Their efforts helped to feed numerous families in the community who are facing food insecurities and helped them to learn to be people who care about others and who will serve their communities. It is estimated that over 44 million people in the U.S. including 13 million children, face food insecurity annually. Thanks to our food pantry volunteers! Our troop also helped by honoring veterans during the Veterans Day flag ceremony at the Marion Moose Lodge.
Before the Marion Christmas parade, St. John’s Daughters of the King and two caring individuals helped our scouts by purchasing parade banners for both the pack and the troop to carry in the community Christmas parade in November. Special thanks to Daughters of the King, Kerry Davis and Gail Maloney! The scouts also helped to keep our community beautiful and clean in 2023 by picking up trash before the parade at Greenlee Park. They participated in their first Camporee as St. John’s Episcopal Church Troop# 369 at Camp Bud Shiele in Rutherfordton, NC. Our pack/troop raised money for camp, supplies and uniforms by selling nuts.
