Update! Beginning in September 2024 the Mercy Rescue Food Bank has found an indoor location! Though we will miss seeing them in our pavilion, we are thrilled for them that they now have dedicated indoor space at Garden Creek Baptist Church, 321 Garden Creek Rd in Marion. Garden Creek blessed with lots of indoor physical space and able to provide 3 rooms for Mercy Rescue's Food Bank. They now have storage space on the same site as they operate! This good news means that when families in need come to pick up food for their beloved pets it will be warm and dry in the winter and cool and dry in the summer, regardless of the weather! What a blessing when our Marion communities of faith step up to serve all of God's creation in this way. The pet food pantry continues to operate once a month at this time, on the third Thursday of the month from 1:30-3:00. There is always a need for more pet food donations. If you are interested in volunteering or providing dog or cat food, contact Mercy Rescue at 652 7980.
St. John’s supports a weekly pet food bank operated by Mercy Rescue. Just as McDowell County has food insecurity in its population, it is also a challenge for some of the residents to provide adequate nutrition for their dogs or cats and, when they cannot feed their animals, the result is an increased number that are unnecessarily taken to the McDowell Animal Shelter. Recipients of pet food are registered with Mercy Rescue, including the number and type of animals in the home. Pet food can be obtained once a month, on the third Thursday between 1:30 and 3 p.m.
